BeAM staff and Applied Physical Sciences researcher Dr. Nico Pegard, will provide a tour of the Murray Hall makerspace and discuss various tools and technologies offered, focusing on light, waves, and lasers!
Make a String Telephone
Please build and try the String Telephone before this session.
- 2 paper cups
- A sharp pencil or sewing needle to help poke holes
- String (kite string and fishing lines work well)
- Step-by-step assembly guide
Ackland Op Art (Interactive)
Watch the video below to join Ackland Art Museum educators for a fun art class. Designed for middle- and high schoolers, this session offers a look at 1960s op art—or optical illusion art—from the Ackland Art Museum’s collection followed by a guided art-making activity creating woven paper works of our own.
- 2 sheets of 2-3 different colors construction paper or printer paper (total of 4-6 sheets)
- 1 sheet of white paper
- Glue stick or tape
- Coloring medium – crayons, colored pencils, or markers
